Saturday, September 26th: Farewell to Saturday!!
AIFD's last Saturday at Hancock Recreation Center. After more than 50 years of dancing at Hancock Recreation SlavadilloCenter, AIFD bids a fond farewell to Saturdays as we look forward to continuing our weekly dancing there on Fridays. Join us one last time on Saturday night for a rollicking send-off, with time-honored favorites both bittersweet and buoyant, and featuring live dance music from our very own Slavadillo!
Friday, October 2nd: Welcome to Friday Open House!!!
New hours: 7-9:45.

Our first Friday at Hancock Recreation Center. It's time for AIFD's FREE annual open house! Join us in celebrating the start of our dancing on Fridays at the new time slot of 7:00 to 9:45. This exciting event will be full of fun dance teaching and walkthroughs, so please invite everyone who might be interested to come and discover the joy of folk music and dance! Also, feel free to wear your favorite folk costume or bring something for the snack table!

Mike ReveszDee McCandless Do you know a folk dancer who has a birthday or anniversary in September? Come help them celebrate with AIFD this Saturday as we enjoy some cake and festivities. Our DJ for this lively evening will be Mike Revesz. Mike will be assisted by Dee McCandless.
Teaching: We give you something unique and fun for newcomers' session! Bob_LeibmanMisiCome at 7:30 for the start of a 3-week 'Balkan Basics' workshop led by Bob Leibman, and learn more about this beloved dance repertoire. Later, don't miss Misi Tsurikov's World's Words reteaching of Valle E Permetit -- for which we now know the words!

September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, and what’s a band of landlocked pirates Pirateto do, but gambol the night away? So don yer finest high-seas garb, and let’s shiver the timbers of Hancock! We’ll take no prisoners, only yer demands for dances from the shores of faraway lands… Yarrr.

Upcoming "other dance" features:
Wednesdays: Scandinavian Music Jams and Dance!!
The Austin Scandi Folk Music & Dance community holds FREE weekly jam sessions at the back room of Austin Scandi Dancersthe Hancock Rec Center! A themed session runs from 7:30 to about 8:15, followed by a regular jam. Bring your instrument of choice, or come out and dance to the music! Then once a month the Scandi group will devote the entire evening to dancing. All levels welcome!

Friday & Saturday, September 18th and 19th:
Greek Dance & Music Weekend!

The Houston International Folk Dancers are sponsoring a Greek Dance and Music Weekend with Dr. Christos Papakostas. For full details, including a list of classes, class locations, special events, and costs, check out the event flyer.

Friday, September 25th: AIFD at Russian House!!
AIFD is partnering with Russian House Restaurant Bar and Bistro to bring you an international dance and music extravaganza! Come to Russian House from 9:00 p.m. to midnight for a night of live music by La Strada and AIO, dance teaching, demo performances, great food, drink, and ambiance. Wear an ethnic dance costume if you have one!
