This week at dancing
October Birthday & Anniversary Celebration!! Iola DJ's, Jasmine assists.

Do you have an October birthday or anniversary? Do you know a fellow folk dancer who does? Come to folk dancing to be serenaded and enjoy some delicious cake! This lively event will be DJ'd by Iola Hallock. Iola will be assisted by Jasmine Guha-Castle.

Teaching: Holly Plotner will present Ciganskoto Djipaj. Introduced by Steve Kotansky, this a fun, easy line dance popular in Bulgarian folk dance clubs. It is done to an awesome, lively composition by Serbian musicians, which you can check out on youtube.

Friday, October 9th 7-9:45 pm $5 at the door 17 & older. 16 & under free Children must be accompanied by an adult.

October 23rd: Live Music with Homegrown Contra Band!! Homegrown Contra Band will be playing two sets of international music and, because no contra band is worth its weight in music stands without it, will play a lively contra called by Kathleen McDonagh. The members of Homegrown Contra Band are Anne Alexander (saz, hurdy gurdy, whistle, fiddle and percussion), Norris Foster Harrell (keyboard and vocals), Holly Plotner (fiddle and vocals), Joane Rylander (mandolin, percussion and vocals), Franklin Houston(trumpet, accordion and Moldvai flute), and Dena Houston (guitar and percussion). November 26-29 Texas Camp 2015! Registration is now open for Texas Camp, 2015. This year's teachers include Mihai David (Romanian) and Campbell Miller (Social Dances). For full details, registration materials, and loads of other fun stuff, check out the Texas International Folk Dancers website.

English Country Dancing (ECD): New night & location!!! 2nd & 4th Saturdays, McPhail Dance Studio. Join us at the McPhail Dance Studio, 8018 Mesa Drive, just south of Spicewood Springs Rd. Moving to McPhail’s gives us more room to dance and a more flexible schedule. Our first dance at McPhail’s will be on Saturday, Oct. 10, 7:15 to 10:15 pm. If you are new to ECD or want to review the basics, please arrive before 7:15 to participate in our newcomers’ session. Our regular dance program runs from 7:30 - 10:15. Our Oct. 10 dance at McPhail’s is free, so it will be a great time for you to come and enjoy English Country Dancing. You can find info at taada.us or on our Facebook page. -Chuck Roth.

Wednesdays: Scandinavian Music Jams and Dance!! The Austin Scandi Folk Music & Dance community holds FREE weekly jam sessions at the back room of the Hancock Rec Center! A themed session runs from 7:30 to about 8:15, followed by a regular jam. Bring your instrument of choice, or come out and dance to the music! Then once a month the Scandi group will devote the entire evening to dancing. All levels welcome!
October 7: Singing, led by Stephanie Anderson.
October 14: Open mic performances.
October 21: Slow jam, led by Holly Plotner.
