This week at dancing

Halloween Party!!!
ghost Come celebrate Halloween as your favorite international ghostly terror. We will Madeline have devilish dancing, a potluck snack table and rumor has it....as we near the witching hour.....a roaming spirit may visit bringing live music to our hall. Our DJ for this fun evening will be the talented and devilishly creative Madeline Brock. Better be there to believe it! And bring a trick or treat for the snack table.

Scared of Boo-fcansko?Sally Horrified by Horror-onsky Czardas? Come in from the darkness as Misi spirit guide Sally (aka Kathleen McDonagh) leads walk-throughs of frightening folk dances. Then walk the "Devil's Path" with mystical Misi Tsurikov, as he teaches Drumul Dracului, a Moldavian Csango dance that, some say, will banish evil spirits!

7:30-10:45 pm,
$5 at the door 17 years or older (free if 16 or under)

Texas Camp TIFD - Thanksgiving Dance Camp Texas camp is a great way to spend your Thanksgiving weekend. The food is terrific, dancing fun, and facilities very comfortable. This year Yulian Yordanov will be teaching dances from Bulgaria. Registration applications must be postmarked by October 31st, so don't dilly dally if you are considering attending. Texas Camp Come celebrate Chuck Roth's 80th Birthday Party with a FREE night of folk and contra dancing on Saturday, December 1st at HRC. More details forthcoming.

AIOAIO at Tom's Tabooley
Austin's own Annoying Instruments Orchestra (AIO) plays at Tom's Tabooley, 2928 Guadalupe St, on Sunday, 10/28, from noon-2pm. There is plenty of parking on Sundays at Burger Tex and El Patio.

Memorial for Jo Soto

Jo Soto

A Memorial will be held for Jo at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 4700 Grover Avenue, on Sunday, Oct. 28, 3 p.m. The service in the Sanctuary will be followed by a life celebration reception in Howson Hall. Guests are welcome to bring a dish to share and wear an article of red clothing.


Anyone who would like to play some folk music in her honor is welcome to bring their instrument. Please contact Genevieve Kent (evikent@gmail.com / 512-919-2493) so that she can coordinate a loose set list that includes easy dances and some of Jo's favorites.
