This Friday at dancing
Home Grown Contra BandLive Music with Homegrown Contra Band!!
Misi DJs, Kathleen assists.
Enjoy a fun evening of dancing this week with live music provided by Misi TsurikovKathleen McDonagh Homegrown Contra Band! HGCB will be playing two sets of international music and, because no contra band is worth its weight in music stands without it, will play a lively contra called by Kathleen McDonagh. Misi Tsurikov will be our DJ this week, assisted by Kathleen.
Teaching: This week is our second class in our Fall Into Scandi series. Norris and Lane Lane and Norris Foster HarrellFoster Harrell will continue teaching a version of Swedish Slängpolska that is done at festivals and dance evenings in Sweden today.

$5 at the door 17 & older. 16 & under free

The members of Homegrown Contra Band are Anne Alexander (saz, hurdy gurdy, whistle, fiddle and percussion), Norris Foster Harrell (keyboard and vocals), Holly Plotner (fiddle and vocals), Joane Rylander (mandolin, percussion and vocals), Franklin Houston (trumpet, accordion and Moldvai flute), and Dena Houston (guitar and percussion). Spider WebAnything goes at our All Hallows' Eve-eve dance! Test out your latest getup, or trot out your rejects from yesteryear. We welcome the wacky, the weird, the subtle, the mixes and matches, the spooky and the cuddly (as well as the more conventional fare—after all, the Hancock troll should have a varied diet). And our dance program might have a few tricks and treats too!

Texas Camp Band and November Birthday Celebration!

CakeEnjoy an evening of lively dance tunes from the Texas Camp Band! This eclectic group of folk musicians from Austin and beyond will offer a wonderful preview of the music we’ll be dancing to at this year’s Texas Camp. And do you have a November birthday or anniversary? Come to folk dancing on this auspicious and totally non-ominous night to be serenaded and enjoy some delicious cake!

Upcoming "other dance" features:
Mondays: Csardas fall basics class!!!
Invirtita from Calata, taught by Franklin Houston and Holly Plotner. Invirtita is a beautiful, intricate Romanian couple dance from Transylvania. No partner necessary, we rotate often. Mondays, 7-8, Hancock back room. Free.

Wednesdays: Scandinavian Music Jams and Dance!!
The Austin Scandi Folk Music & Dance community holds FREE weekly jam sessions at the back room of the Hancock Rec Center! A themed session runs from 7:30 to about 8:15, Austin Scandi Dancersfollowed by a regular jam. Bring your instrument of choice, or come out and dance to the music! Then once a month the Scandi group will devote the entire evening to dancing. All levels welcome!
October 21: Slow jam, followed by regular jam, led by Holly Plotner.
October 28: Free Monthly Dance, DJ'd by the dynamic duo of Mike & Kathleen.

English Country Dancing (ECD):
2nd & 4th Saturdays, McPhail Dance Studio.

Join us at the McPhail Dance Studio, 8018 Mesa Drive, just south of Spicewood Springs Rd. English Country DancingMoving to McPhail’s gives us more room to dance and a more flexible schedule. If you are new to ECD or want to review the basics, please arrive before 7:15 to participate in our newcomers’ session. Our regular dance program runs from 7:30 - 10:15.
