October Birthdays and Anniversaries!!

Holly PlotnerDee McCandlessDo you or a fellow dancer have a birthday or anniversary in October? Come to folk dancing on this auspicious and totally non-ominous night to celebrate with song, dance, and cake! Our DJ for this lively evening will be Holly Plotner. Holly will be assisted by Dee McCandless. The theme of Holly's program will be Texas Camp Preview, featuring dances previously taught by Texas Camp 2017 teachers Cristian Florescu & Sonia Dion and Richard Powers.
Franklin Houston Teaching: Franklin Houston will fill the first part of the teaching hour with a collection of long-time popular Greek dances that are quick to learn and fun to do. He will then leap to Ukraine to teach the recreational version of the men's dance, ARKAN, so that all the guys in AIFD can impress the crowd without hurting themselves.
Friday, October 13, 7-9:45 pm.
The admission fee is $5 for those 18 and older.

There is no fee for those under 18,
but they must be supervised by a designated person 18 or older.

La Strada October 27: Halloween alla Strada!!!
Join us for a thunderous Halloween party at AIFD, featuring live music by La Strada! Don your costumes of Halloweens past and present, bring some sweet treats for the kids, and enjoy a night of freaky tunes from Dee, Jeff, and company.

November 10: No dancing.
Hancock Rec Center will be closed in observance of Veterans' Day.

DumbeckNovember 17: Texas Camp Band & November Birthdays!!!
CakeEnjoy an evening of rollicking live music by the Texas Camp Band! This eclectic group of folk musicians is meeting in Austin to practice for camp, and this will be a special preview of the tunes they'll be performing this year. We'll also celebrate our dancers who have a birthday or anniversary in November with song, dance, and cake.

The quarterly Dances for children and their families originally scheduled to start on October 20th has been cancelled. It will be rescheduled in the near future.

Nana Lopez Want to brush up on your contra skills prior to Fireant Frolic? Nana Lopez will be conducting lessons on Tuesday, October 17 on “Becoming a Better Contra Dancer” Tips, techniques and practice, The lesson will be held at Hancock Rec Center Room 2 (next to the Ping Pong Table).
