Children's Hour Madeline DJ's, Lila assists.
Join us for a fun and lively evening of folk dancing that will include a special nod to the youngest dancers (see below). Madeline Brock will be our DJ. Madeline will be assisted by Lila Luce.
Teaching: We will kick off the evening with a special event designed with our youngest folk dancers in mind! During an extended newcomer’s session from 7 - 8 p.m., Madeline Brock and Kathleen McDonagh will teach fun and exciting dances sure to appeal to the young (and young at heart). So, bring your kids both little and big; and remember, children 16 and under dance for free *every* Friday evening! Later in the evening, Holly Plotner will review Belcova Tropanka, the Bulgarian dance from Yves Moreau that she taught last week. |
Friday, May 6th, 7-9:45 pm $5 at the door 17 & older (16 & under free). Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Next Week!! Friday, May 13th: Elections and May Birthday.
It’s that time of year to elect the AIFD Board (see below). We’ll host the elections after announcements at Friday night dancing. Also, if you or a fellow folk dancer has a birthday or anniversary in May, come to folk dancing to celebrate with song, dance, and cake!
Friday, May 20th: No dancing - floor refinishing. Hancock Recreation Center will be closed for floor maintenance, so we will not be meeting at our usual location this week. Keep your eyes and ears open at dancing for a possible alternative meeting location.
Friday, June 3rd: Live Music with Homegrown! Enjoy a fun evening of dancing featuring live international folk and contra music by Homegrown! This band originated at the 2004 Texas Camp to provide live music for contras. Eventually, the Austin members of that band formed a group to play contra (and later international) music for contra and folk dance events. Homegrown musicians include Anne Alexander (saz, hurdy gurdy, whistle, fiddle, and percussion), Norris Foster Harrell (keyboard and vocals), Holly Plotner (fiddle and vocals), Joane Rylander (mandolin, percussion, and vocals), Franklin Houston (trumpet, accordion, and Moldvai flute), and Dena Houston (guitar and percussion).
