Teaching: "Hey, good lookin', whatcha got cookin'?. . ." Join us this week, when we serve up an exciting menu of dances. Kathleen McDonagh will be on hand at 7:30 p.m. to whet your appetites with a selection of introductory dances. For our main course, Rikki Nicolae will present Chef (pronounced "kef"), a high energy, Transylvanian Roma dance taught by Sonia Dion and Cristian Florescu at SAFDF 2013. We'll use part of the evening for a special send off for our VP, Masha. We'll have cake. Bring snacks to share. See lower right for details. Farewell to Masha Masha, the current VP of AIFD, is leaving Austin this month to join her boyfriend in the snowier locale of North Bay, Ontario. She feels immensely lucky to have found the warm, wonderful folk dancing community of Austin, and she will miss the group very much! It has been a joy to hold hands, allemande left and exchange smiles with all of you. Join her this Saturday for a parting round of horos! Cake will be served. Bring snacks to share. Next week - Home Grown Contra Band!! Homegrown Contra Band is going INTERNATIONAL! On May 18th they will perform two sets of dance music from around the world each set containing a contra. Look and listen for Anne Alexander's new booming tupan along with her exotic hurdy gurdy; Franklin Houston's refurbished accordion and his wild and crazy trumpet; Joane Rylander's mad mandolin; Holly Plotner's fabulous fiddle and Dena Houston's throbbing guitar.
