This Friday at dancing

Sharon CasteelDavid LiangDo you have a June birthday or anniversary or know a fellow folk dancer who does? Come to folk dancing to be serenaded and enjoy some delicious cake! This lively event will be DJ'd by Sharon Casteel. Sharon will be assisted by David Liang.
Teaching: Michel Breger will continue teaching two of AIFD’s long-time favorite German dances Michel_Bregerwith his lovely partner, Sandy. He will start with Zigeunerpolka (Gypsy Polka), a charming polka mixer. He will then finish his teaching of Marklander, a schottische with a number of fun variations. Hope to see you there!

Friday, June 24th: Live Music with Shirley Johnson!!
Shirley Johnson Enjoy a fun evening of dancing with live music provided by Shirley Johnson. Stay tuned for more details. Shirley will also be playing at "World Music Marmalade", a House Concert with Cocktail Hour in North Austin, on Sunday, June 12th, from 5:30-8:30 pm. See the event website for more details, including other musical guests and suggested donation.

Friday, July 1st: Independence Day Party!!
Flag and fireworks Kick off your Fourth of July celebrations at folk dancing! We’ll do plenty of American dances as well as sunny dances to ring in the summer. AIFD will provide lemonade and watermelon. Feel free to bring refreshments to share, and wear your patriotic colors to dance!

Friday - Sunday, June 10th-12th:
45th Annual Texas Folk Life Festival.

Looks like the weather has cleared just in time to travel to San Antonio for another fantastic Texas Folk Life Festival. Come see a variety of great dance and music acts, exhibits, and interactive events. Also, keep an eye out for Csárdás Hungarian Dancers, Austin's local Hungarian dance troupe that includes many of your fellow folk dancers. Some come to AIFD on Friday for some great dancing fun, then travel down to San Antonio on either Saturday or Sunday (or both) to take in the festivities. Comp;lete details.

Saturday, June 11th: Florence Friendship Days!!
Looking for an excuse to get out of town and enjoy some great live music? Consider driving up the road to Jason Roberts Band Florence for the Friendship Festival. The day will be full of events and games. Then, as the sun sets and things cool off, the Jason Roberts Band will take the stage. Jason Roberts was the fiddle player for Asleep at the Wheel for many years. He band includes very talented musicians and his repertoire includes a wide variety of C&W, swing, waltzes, and polkas.
