Friday, August 26th: Leah's Birthday Dance - A Tribute to Leah Morgan Durrett.
This will be a loving, light-hearted evening, in the spirit of someone who had infectious curiosity about all kinds of music and cultures. Leah was the type of person to perk up at the sound of a band playing and jump right into the line to figure out the dance. Music by: Don Weeda, Corinne Zappler, Genevieve Kent, and Phara Charmchi. So put on your fanciest wig, stripey-est socks, and your most extravagant hat, and in the spirit of Leah, dance your heart out! Full details here.

Sat/Sun, July 30th-31st: Balkan Folks 2016!!
"BalFolk" is a participatory music & dance idiom which is on a kind of rising tide of revival and young energy in Europe, especially in France, Germany, The Low Countries, England, Italy, and Spain. There is some visibility for this music & dance in the USA but not much. The Vernacular Music Center at Texas Tech University and the Roots Music Institute are bringing instrumental music instructors (from California) and dance teachers (from France) for classes, workshops on Saturday and Sunday July 30th/31st, and a public dance on Saturday, July 30th. Full details. Registration. (Thanks to Yoshimi Masuo for forwarding the info.)
