Saturday, February 24, from 11:00 to 1:00: Dottie Jordan Rec Center Open House!!!

Come celebrate the Chinese New Year at the Dottie Jordan Rec Center. There will be a performance of the Dragon Dance, and also representatives from Dottie Jordan's programs will be available for information. These programs include Austin International Folk Dancers, Ballet Folklorico, Youth Dance, Martial Arts, and Tennis Buddies.Flier.

Come celebrate the last class of our 6 week Couples Dance 101 Series with Live Music by Don Weeda and Grammy Award Winner Paul Morrissett. They will play music for the dances that were taught in the class, as well as our usual International and Scandi favorites! Our DJ for this delightful evening will be Holly Plotner. Holly will be assisted by Janie Hopkins. |

Teaching: Michel Breger and Stephanie Anderson will teach the Texas Two-Step and the Waltz left turn, with special tips on how to make the turns comfortable and enjoyable. There will also be a review of the buzz-step turn and Schottische. |
Friday, February 23, 7-9:45 pm. Teaching session is free. Then admission fee is $5 for those 18 and older. There is no fee for those under 18,
but they must be supervised by a designated person 18 or older.

AIFD is organized exclusively for educational purposes, including the promotion and teaching of traditional folk dance, music and crafts native to a variety of countries.

FREE Beginner Folk Dance Class!! Tuesdays, through March 13, 6:45-7:45. Join our teaching director, Sharon Casteel, as she leads a 6 week Beginner Folk Dance class at the Dottie Jordan Recreation Center, 2803 Loyala Lane in Austin (map). Sharon has taught Setnja, Lesnoto, Raca, Ajde Jano, and Gori More, which are reviewed each week. Some dances she may teach in the future are Corlu Aroman, Cocek, Yaylalar, and Ma Na'avu. March 9: March Birthday and Anniversaries!!!
Do you have a birthday or anniversary in March, or know a fellow folk dancer who does? Come to folk dancing to celebrate with song, dance, and cake!

In honor of the 60th annual San Antonio Folk Dance Festival, AIFD will not be meeting this week.

Sketchy Guys As you get ready to take your newly acquired couples dance skills into Austin's vibrant dance scene, make sure to check out Richard Powers' primer, Sketchy Guys, about good dance etiquette. Richard Powers was one of the instructors at last year's Texas Camp.

March 9-14: Pre SAFDF events!! The week prior to the San Antonio Folk Dance Festival will be filled with a variety of fun and interesting workshops and events. These include a Set For Spring English Country Dance workshop, a Canary Island Dance Workshop - Celebrating the 300th anniversary of the arrival of Canary Islanders to San Antonio; a Fun Arts Day; and a Hawaiian luau.
