Masha French dancing: Dear fellow folk dancers, If you have time this Saturday 1-3pm, and you would like to participate in demonstrating/teaching several French folk dances at the George Washington Carver Center, please email me at vice_president@aifd.cc. The Center is hosting a festival of French culture, and some interactive dancing demos and lessons would be very welcome. Thanks very much! Masha (AIFD's VP).

My Papa’s Waltz
By Theodore Roethke
The whiskey on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy;
But I hung on like death:
Such waltzing was not easy.

We romped until the pans
Slid from the kitchen shelf;
My mother’s countenance
Could not unfrown itself.

The hand that held my wrist
Was battered on one knuckle;
At every step you missed
My right ear scraped a buckle.

You beat time on my head
With a palm caked hard by dirt,
Then waltzed me off to bed
Still clinging to your shirt.
And speaking of waltz ---

Austin social dance Richard Powers is hosting Austin Waltz Weekend this coming Saturday and Sunday with Richard Powers. The event is designed for dancers comfortable with at least one form of a waltz. Details and fees on their website.
